Katy Perry and Russell Brand, When’s The Wedding?

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

It seems that famed “I Kissed a Girl,” singer Katy Perry can’t stay out of the celebrity engagement gossip.  First, in 2008 Perry denied rumors of engagement to on again-off again boyfriend and Gym Class Heroes front man Travis McCoy, after it was reported he proposed to her during a trip to France.  Then, back in early September of 2009, Perry was spotted flashing a diamond engagement ring in L.A. forcing her to deny, for the second time, rumors that she was in fact engaged to McCoy. Shortly thereafter, the couple split and Perry began dating British comedian and star of Saving Sarah Marshall, Russell Brand that month.  Then, coming just four months after she denied her engagement to McCoy, Perry got engaged to her new boyfriend after a New Years Eve proposal in India.

Brand, 35, and Perry, 25, met during the MTV Music Awards this past year and since the well known playboy has reportedly only had eyes for her.  Couple insiders report that while the two new lovebirds were having an intimate Indian dinner in London, Katy professed to Russell that she loved the eastern culture.  As a Christmas gift, he whisked her away on a trip to Bollywood, where he proposed marriage just before midnight on New Years Eve. The New York Daily News reports that the engagement ring is “a large, square-cut diamond set in a platinum band,” but this is all the news we have regarding the status of the rock.

After the proposal, the couple donned traditional Indian outfits and had their engagement and relationship blessed by an Indian love guru.  According to The Sun, the ceremony took place at the base of a mountain in Jaipur, in a tent.  Shortly after the traditional love ceremony, Russell further surprised his new fiancé with a trip to Thailand to celebrate their engagement.

The rumors of their engagement actually began when Brand was spotted shopping at a West London Cartier store, allegedly looking at engagement rings.  This is where he is said to have purchased the square-cut diamond and platinum setting.

Katy and Russell have only been dating for a few monthsmonths, so the news of their engagement has not been taken very seriously among the celebrity media.  Perhaps this is another story of a hot and heavy Hollywood romance that will fizzle out before it gets started, so maybe we shouldn’t be surprised if we never hear the wedding bells ring for the famous couple.  It is reported that she and McCoy, Perry’s previous alleged fiancé, had trouble in their relationship due to her hectic tour schedule.  With Brand’s history of drugs and sex addiction, her fame, and the lack of privacy that accompanies celebrity relationships, the couple will have to fight hard to make it to the alter.

Carrie Underwood’s Engagement Ring Details

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

More news about American Idol champion Carrie Underwood’s engagement!  When we reported about her engagement news a few weeks ago to Canadian hockey player and alternate captain for the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League, Mike Fisher, we had little information about her engagement ring and wedding details, but now the news is in!

From the early photos of Underwood’s diamond engagement ring, it was obvious that Fisher had selected an amazing rock, and now we know how amazing; it is reported that Fisher spent a whopping $1.3 million dollars on her engagement ring!  Apparently Fisher knows his bride to be well; he sought advice from Underwood’s favorite jewelry designer, Jonathan Arndt.  Carrie has been a huge fan of Arndt’s work for some time.  At the 2007 Country Music Awards Underwood wore Arndt’s twin imperial jadeite and diamond butterfly pins that were worth an incredible $6 million, and this past February at the Grammy’s she wore his diamond drop earrings along with an Arndt diamond band on her right hand.  The famed jewelry designer told the press that he designed this stunning diamond engagement ring because it, “is a symbol of love from Mike Fisher to Carrie Underwood,” also offering the couple many warm wishes.

What makes Underwood’s stunning engagement ring so valuable? Her diamond is a flawless yellow, twelve carat, round brilliant cut, with an incredible clarity; the VVS1 range.  Its classic design and simple elegance even further enhance the engagement ring’s beauty.

In regards to the date of the ceremony, Underwood told Ottawa, Ontario show Grecosize, on the station Team 1200, that there is no set date yet. “No date, actually, our schedules don’t provide us that much time to get married. … We’re trying to work it out and move stuff around.”

Whenever they do plan to tie the knot, it sounds like Fisher will be right by her side planning the wedding details.  Underwood further told Grecosize that, “Mike is great, he jumps in, and he always says he doesn’t. He’s like, ‘Oh, I don’t care. Just whatever you want!’  But then I go and ask him, ‘What do you think about this?’ And he’ll go, ‘Oh, no,’ and he’ll weigh in. I think he’s going to be more involved than he initially though he wanted to be, which is good. I need help.  There’s a lot to plan for. I think in the New Year I’ll just try to keep centered throughout it all.”

With his new $21 million dollar contract with the Ottawa Senators and her American Idol tour for 2010, the two will be very busy this year, but I don’t think they will have to worry much about the wedding budget and recovering from the cost of her diamond engagement ring!

Kevin Jonas Gets Married

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Two years ago, as a surprise birthday gift for my soon to be ten year old son, I patiently waited on the phone line in an attempt to be one of the lucky parents to score Hanna Montana tickets and become “Mom of the Year,” in my boy’s eyes.  While the concert had already sold out, I had heard an announcement on the radio that Hannah Montana and her people were releasing an extra fifty seats, so I jumped at the chance.  My efforts were a success and I scored three tickets in the last row; one for myself and two for my Starr eyed boy and his lucky friend.  At that time I barely knew who Miley Cyrus or Hanna Montana were, and little did I realize what an impact the young celebrity had made on thousands of young children.

Hannah Montana’s opening act was the boy band called the Jonas Brothers.  As they entered the stage my ears were pierced by the screams of tens of thousands of eight-year old girls, and as I watched these boys run and jump around the stage; I realized that while their talent may not lie in their vocals, they were incredibly good at making pre-teen girls swoon.  It immediately dawned on me what a gold mine their label had discovered.

Two years later, my son has matured and is much more interested in John Mayer and AC/DC.  As I turn on the celebrity news, I realize that not only has he grown, but so have his earlier pre-teen idols.  Hannah Montana now almost exclusively goes by her true name, Miley Cyrus, and has crossed the adolescent to adult musical boundary attracting fans of all ages.  The Jonas brothers have grown too; in fact, one of the young celebrities just got married!

The oldest crooner of the Jonas Brothers is Kevin Jonas, at age twenty-two.  Apparently not eager to spread his wings and play the field, this past weekend Kevin married his longtime girlfriend Danielle Deleasa.  As a celebrity Kevin Jonas followed suite and threw a lavish winter themed wedding at the Oheka Castle in Long Island, New York, and even the weather cooperated by offering a beautiful snowstorm.  In order to avoid playing the “favorite game,” Kevin’s younger brothers and fellow band mates, Nick and Joe Jonas, both served as his best man.  Other celebrities to attend the Jonas-Deleasa wedding included Disney actresses Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato.

Kevin met Danielle, a twenty-two year old former hair stylist, in the Bahamas about two years ago, and she claimed to have no idea who he was. This past summer Jonas proposed to Deleasa at her home in New Jersey.  Her engagement ring is a three-carat solitaire cushion-cut diamond surrounded by 210 round, brilliant-cut pave diamonds, which Jonas helped design along with Jacobs and Co.  All members of the Jonas Brothers band wear purity rings to announce their commitment to celibacy before marriage, now after this past weekend, Kevin Jonas’s purity ring has been replaced by a much more grown-up wedding ring.

Is Tila Tequila Engaged, or isn’t she?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Is reality star and queen of MySpace Tila Tequila engaged…or isn’t she?  The controversial Texas girl has been all over the web lately for flashing a huge diamond engagement ring and announcing via Twitter that she was going to be the surrogate mother for her brother and sister-in-law’s baby.  It seems since she dominated the MySpace world, Miss Tequila can’t stay far from the spotlight.

Born in Singapore, Tila Tequila was raised in Houston, Texas by her parents.  When she was 18 she was spotted by a Playboy scout in the local mall and since has seen her career explode all over the entertainment map.  She used her success in nude modeling to catapult into music (sort of), web commerce, and reality television.  Her MTV reality show titled, “Shot at Love with Tila Tequila,” was a bisexual dating show that lasted two seasons.  Men and Women both competed for her affection, but didn’t realize they were battling against the opposite sex until the end of the season.

In Tequila’s recent engagement announcement, she showed off her huge 17-carat diamond engagement ring from her supposed fiancé Casey Johnson, heiress to the Johnson and Johnson empire and also known as the Band-Aid Queen.  Tila flashed the bling and tactfully commented, “17-carat diamond ring from my baby…my baby takes care of me. Beat that J.Lo! Beat that Khloe and Lamar!”

In reaction to Tila’s announcement, Johnson’s former girlfriend, Courtenay Semel, stated that Tequila’s engagement ring was as fake as her supposed engagement.  Semel, also a reality show star (who isn’t these days?) the daughter of the Yahoo CEO, and now girlfriend of Lindsay Lohan said the ring was a re-gift.  Johnson had once given it to Semel while they were dating, and it is actually not even a real diamond.  There has been no comment from Johnson regarding the ring, or the engagement.

Tila is no stranger to the tabloids.  Her former boyfriend, San Diego Chargers football player Shawne Merriman, is now suing Tequila for false charges that she made, and then dropped due to lack of evidence.  Apparently she had accused Merriman of attacking her in his home, choking, and restraining her.  His assault charges were dropped this past September, and a recent naked rant from Tila on the website Ustream is credited to her troubles with Shawne.

Now the drama queen wants to carry her brother’s baby as a Christmas gift to him and his wife.  Playboy spreads, bi-sexual reality television shows, naked rants, fake diamond re-gifted engagement rings from lesbian heiresses, why wouldn’t Tila Tequila make a great incubator for an unborn child?  No word on whether or not she is actually pregnant…maybe this attempt and child bearing will end up holding as much water as her Merriman accusations.

Dancing with the Stars Melissa Rycroft weds Tye Strickland

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

We all love happy endings, and after Dancing with the Stars reality television star Melissa Rycroft was dumped on The Bachelorette by Jason Mesnick, we got one.  After being unlucky in romance, this past weekend, Rycroft married her long time love Tye Strickland in a sunset ceremony on the beach.  Rycroft and Strickland met in their hometown and dated on and off for two years, parting ways prior to the airing the of The Bachelorette.  Just four months after her humiliating rejection and break up with then fiancé Mesnick on the air, tides turned and Strickland popped the question to Rycroft at White’s Chapel in Southlake, Texas.  Opening a ring box with an internal light for added effect, Strickland presented her with a stunning $60k platinum engagement ring; how could she say no!  The band is crowned with a center 2-carat pear shaped diamond, surrounded six baguettes, and 94 round diamonds.

After getting engaged, Rycroft and Strickland joined their parents for a celebration and dinner at the nearby Brio Tuscan Grille, then joined twenty of their friends at the Dallas restaurant Cretia’s, walking into a round of applause.

In preparation for their big day and to say farewell to singlehood in style, the couple flew to Las Vegas for a joint bachelor/bachelorette party.  Rycroft and Strickland stayed at the luxurious Palazzo hotel and early in the evening the couple attended the Jersey Boys Show.  Then, in traditional bachelor/bachelorette party style, the girls headed for an evening of fun at Palazzo’s Lavo, while the men partied the night away at Tao.

Approximately six months after Rycroft accepted Strickland’s proposal, and the amazing platinum and diamond engagement ring, the two made their relationship official.  The wedding ceremony was held on December 12th in Isla Mujeres on the coast of Cancun Mexico.  Every detail was attended to; Rycroft wore a beautiful mermaid style, white flowing, Alfred Angelo wedding gown and carried a bouquet of peach and white roses.  With tears in her eyes, she was escorted by her father to the alter on the beach at the end of the dock to the traditional wedding song, “Here Comes the Bride.”

In keeping with the casual beach theme, Rycroft’s bridesmaids wore peach colored bridesmaid dresses, while Strickland’s groomsmen wore causal khaki pants and sea foam green button down shirts; all members of the wedding party walked barefoot.  Also in tears, Strickland waited for Rycroft at the alter wearing a causal khaki suit with a peach rose, white button down shirt, and no tie.

Rycroft and Strickland timed their beach wedding ceremony perfectly.  The anticipated event took place in the late afternoon, ending with Rycroft and Strickland’s vows being repeated with the setting of the sun.

Celebrities Love Secret Engagements

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

Celebrity engagement rumor:  Tony Romo, football player and ex boyfriend to Jessica Simpson gives his new girlfriend, Candace Crawford, an engagement ring!  Wait…doesn’t this mean that they are, in fact, engaged?  Some say that Romo’s gift to Crawford was just a ring, and not an engagement ring, but if you wear a diamond ring on the third finger of your left hand doesn’t it stand to reason that you are planning to get married?  Why is it that celebrities work so hard to keep their engagements from reaching the press?  Isn’t the act of becoming engaged itself a declaration of your intentions to marry? I would think that if a couple didn’t want the world to know they were going to be wed, they would wait to become engaged until they are ready for the announcement.  What is the point of marriage if not to broadcast the fact that you have chosen this person to spend the rest of your life with?

The web and tabloid stands are full of celebrity engagement gossip. Pop singer Katy Perry’s boyfriend Russell Brand is rumored to be engagement ring shopping at London’s Cartier, but are they going to tie the knot after her evening cozying up to British comedian Robert Pattinson and a group of friends?

Jennifer Lopez wore her amazing eight-carat square cut diamond ring on her middle finger and denied engagement to Marc Anthony.  Their wedding was kept under wraps, and it wasn’t until months later that Lopez and Anthony admitted the union.  I can understand wanting privacy during the ceremony, but again, why keep their marriage a secret after the fact?  Eventually don’t you want the world to know?

For two months actress Rachel Bilson kept her engagement to fellow actor Hayden Christensen a secret.  It wasn’t until a man on an airplane noticed the engagement ring on her finger that she revealed that they were planning to wed.  Again, why the secrecy?  Are stars afraid if the news of their engagements leaks out to the public it will jinx their chances of success?  I think if they want to keep their engagements private then they shouldn’t wear a diamond engagement ring in public.

Secret engagements are not always the standard for stars, however. Some celebrities are not so timid when it comes to love.  When Chelsea Clinton and her now fiancé Marc Mezvinsky became engaged this past November, they weren’t afraid of announcing the big news at all.  In fact, they sent out a mass email to their friends and family!  I don’t know how classy that is, but at least they let the people close to them share in their excitement.

For singer Jennifer Hudson, one proposal was not enough.  Four months after her pro wrestler fiancé David Otunga popped the question on her 27thbirthday, she surprised him.  Apparently Hudson wanted Otunga to realize how much she was looking forward to their wedding, she secretly had a fabulous man’s five-carat diamond engagement ring custom designed by Neil Lane, and proposed to him!

Celebrity Inspired Engagement Rings

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

When a celebrity couple announces their engagement, hungry fans eagerly await the first photos of the bride-to-be’s engagement ring. While it would be wonderful to be able to have such gems, most non-celebrity couples simply cannot afford the big, expensive rings celebrities seem to covet. Luckily, the advent of celebrity inspired replica rings has enabled regular couples to have a shot at the beautiful baubles celebrities are known for – without the hefty price tag!

Celebrity Replica Engagement Rings

A celebrity replica ring is a copy of the original ring, but has a few differences that make the design accessible to the average couple. However, very rarely are celebrity replica rings an exact copy of the original. Thankfully, you have a couple of choices if you’re intent on owning a copy of a celebrity engagement ring for yourself.

Celebrity Inspired Rings are similar to the actual celebrity ring, but are not an exact copy. Instead, there are several similarities between stones, settings and other details that make it an identifiable “copy” of the original ring.

Celebrity Knock-off’s, on the other hand, can be similar to a celebrity engagement ring, but are often created based on rumors, gossip and a few photographs rather than true facts.

The type of celebrity replica ring you’ll choose will be based on how authentic you wish the ring to be, as well as your budget and personal preferences.

Types of Replica Rings

The average bride-to-be leads an active lifestyle between work, home life and other day to day necessities. With that being said, an exact copy of a celebrity engagement ring would be completely impractical because of their large size and expensive price tag. Because of this, celebrity engagement ring replicas design the ring to be practical for the every day woman while still maintaining the essence of the original ring.

Size

Most celebrity rings are huge, so celebrity replicas take this into consideration and size down the ring. What this means is that they keep the overall design but scale down the carat size to create a more practical engagement ring. Even with particularly elaborate designs, while some of the original stones or other designs may be lost in a smaller size, the ring will still be reminiscent of the original celebrity style.

Price

As you already know, celebrity engagement rings are ridiculously expensive, but you can still find an authentic replica without the hefty price tag.

You can keep the overall appearance of a celebrity replica, but use lower quality stones or synthetic diamonds and gemstones as accent stones or a center stone to help decrease the price. Choosing a cheaper metal, such as white gold, can also help lower the price while still remaining visually authentic to the celebrity design.

A celebrity inspired engagement ring replica may be the perfect choice for the bride-to-be who wants to bring a bit of flash to her finger. Even if you don’t have the budget of a celebrity, you can still look like you do with a replica ring!

2009 Trends in Celebrity Engagement Rings

Photobucket

Celebrities influence nearly everything we do, from picking out clothes to styling our hair;  from decorating our homes to selecting products we use. They even influence our engagements and weddings- so it should come as no surprise that we are a little obsessed with celebrity engagement rings. Celebrity engagement rings often give enamored fans a little glimpse of their personal taste and thus their personality. Who wouldn’t like to say that their engagement ring was inspired by their favorite celebrity’s engagement ring?  Many celebrity engagement rings are custom made, and while most of us do not have the money to get an exact replica, we can find some pretty close versions of the glamorous baubles. Some rings may be vintage, others more modern, but all of them evoke glamour.

Here are three celebrity engagement ring trends of 2009

Solitaire Rings- One diamond doesn’t have to be lonely. Solitary diamonds or jewels can come in many different colors(though white diamonds are always preferred) and shapes including princess cut and square. Fergie’s engagement ring is a simple brilliant diamond solitaire ring. Another idea is to have the band in small pave stones and a large solitaire diamond in the center surrounded by more pave stones- a style that is a lot like the engagement rings that grace the fingers of Natasha Beddingfield and Amy Adams.

Vintage Inspired Rings- Why look forward to the future when you can look to the past for inspiration? Courtney Ford’s square cushioned cut diamond ring surrounded by smaller cut diamonds is 1920’s art-deco inspired. Melania Knauss’s engagement ring was also in bit art-deco with a simple emerald cut diamond solitaire- a lot like the ring Ashlee Simpson chose. Tameka Foster’s ring is inspired by British royalty of the past with a classic Asscher cut, which is a square cut diamond with diagonal cropped corners. And former first daughter Jenna Bush chose an antique ring with a round center stone and two smaller sapphires on either side.

Colored Stone Rings- Even though white diamonds are standard, many celebrities are also choosing more colorful baubles that reflect their personality. And right now, colorful jewelry is a huge trend thanks to the 2009 Oscars.  A lot of these colorful baubles are diamonds, which is a rare find. Yellow is a common color of many celebrity engagement rings, Rebecca Romjin, Heidi Klum, Katherine McPhee and Brooke Mueller all wore yellow diamond engagement rings.  Carmen Electra goes for a more Goth route by single black diamond solitaire engagement ring. Mariah Carey’s engagement ring is pink emerald cut diamond that is flanked by two half-moon cut diamonds on either side.

Remember that no matter what celebrity engagement ring trend you choose, you should also choose a ring that reflects your (or your bride-to-be’s) personality. Unlike most jewelry, an engagement ring is more personal and significant, so it would be a good idea to some research. Engagement rings are also a reflection of your relationship, so it is crucial to select the right ring.
